Points from file

Is there any tool that creates a set of points from a file? I am currently trying to create a set of around 16 points on a curve that are not uniformly spaced along this curve and had the thought that since I have the location of these points maybe I could just read in a file to place the points instead of having to create them 1 by 1

Thanks,

Jacob

You can create a spline through points from file, extract the defining points and delete the spline.

I think he wants to go the other way round. He has the curves, but wants them exported as a series of points.

ewh, I think that might work. I had tried something like that but the points didn't seem to match what I wanted.

John - not in this case. I have a set of points, and actually I want both a curve and points from this set so I can place datums at each of the points on the curve.

Sorry, I missed the details of your original request (even though it has been posted in multiple venues ;-)

Upon rereading what you ACTUALLY asked for, ewh's approach, sans the deleting of the spline, would give you what it would appear you are looking for.

And as a way to get you started, attached is a file which you can use to create a spline using the Spline from File of Points method. Note that the format of this file documented in the help files (what looks like an extra field of data is an optional way of including slope control to the process, but is not mandatory).

And before you ask, you will need to create separate files for each curve being created.
