We are dealing with some severe corrosion of ESP cable. Large portions of the galavnized armor are being corroded in some wells after 1-3 months in production. These are CBM wells (100% water cut) and gas with 0.7-1% CO2 flowing up the annulus.
Part of this corrosion is galvanic, between J-55 tubing, galvanized cable armor and 316SS capillary injection line, all held together with Monel bands.
We are looking at ordering cable with a plastic polyamide armor. Has anyone else tried this type of armor? Did you see swelling due to gas? Is this armor durable (it will be run into a multilateral well with significant horizontal section)? Comment?
