I would like to know whether polychloroprene rubber is suited for buttefly valves handling kerosine, mtbe, petrol, diesel and Jet fuel. Also does polychloroprene have any other commercial or chemical name? any help would be most appreciated.

Hi,
Polychloroprene (CR)=Neoprene(Dupont)=Byprene(Bayer)
Resistance to oil product:
NBR > CR > SBR >NR > EPDM > IIR
This means CR the best after NBR (Nitrile butyl rubber)
Tha above relation is only generally and can be changed in special cases.
About MTBE , I don not Know.
Bye

Neoprene (chloroprene) has the following chemical compatibilities (from Apple Rubber catalog):

Kerosene Questionable
Methyl Ether Questionable
Diesel Unknown
Petrol Poor
Jet Fuel Poor

So Neoprene (chloroprene) sounds like a poor choice for your application.

Can you use nitrile (also called Buna-N?)
It has good resistance to all of the above chemicals.

You can not use Neoprene with the medias that you metioned. I suggest that you consider a high fluorine content elastomer such as a GF Viton manufactured by DuPont. If the MTBE content is high you might have to go to a perfluoroelastomer. If you need more information let me know.
