is it possible to have wind direction acting y axis on the portal frame? its normally in the x direction (horizontal to the portal frame. Also instead of the front of the portal frame can it also be analysed from wall side so that the wind y direction becomes x direction?

Wind can act in any direction.....leeward, windward, roof suction, roof pressure. The effect of wind on your portal frame depends on, among other things, the geometry and location of your frame.

Portal frame buildings typically are braced in the other direction. Sway frame X, braced frame Y. But you can use portal frames in both principal directions.

Y axis, do yonot mean vertically?
