Post cure needed for all rubber type for food contact application?

Hi all.

I've been looking into the need to post cure rubber product for food contact application.

There are mentions like "post curing is absolutely mandatory in order to meet demands of FDA and WRAS norms. etc."

However, so far, all the article I found are mostly on silicone rubber. But I need to find out if I need to post-cure products made of NBR and EPDM as well.

If we cure the product for longer time with lower temperature, is it enough to removes the by-products as well or still need to be post-cured?

If you use peroxide cure systems you will most certainly have to post cure your products.

May I know why is that?

I'm actually quite new in industry. There are so many things that we didnt learn in school that is applied in industry... Just realise that I have so many to learn...

Peroxide residues have to be removed because they can taint, or even poison, the food/water the silicone rubber comes into contact with.

You can find an enormous amount of information on the internet about rubber technology from beginners level right up to highly academic research material. Another way of finding information is to talk with your suppliers' technical people. This link with get you started:

Yes, I've read a lot about post-curing and silicon rubber. But since we're using NBR and EPDM, that's why I'm asking if they still need the same requirement for post-curing.

I cannot find much on post-curing with other type of rubber.
