Does anyone have any experience using the equations and methods found in ANSI/ASAE EP486.1 OCT00 "Shallow Post Foundation Design"? I have the publication and I would like to see some practical examples worked out.

I am not familiar with the ANSI/ASAE EP486.1 OCT00. However, I have successfully used the following referenced in the past. They all are very similar in the derivations of their formulas. I would be interested to see how it compares the ones I listed.

1. "Design of Concrete Foundation Piers" - by Frank Randall, Portland Cement Association (PCA) - Skokie, IL, May 1968

2. "Resistance to Overturning of Single, Short Piles" - by Eli Czerniak, ASCE Journal of the Structural Division, Vol. 83, No. ST2, Paper 1188, March 1957

3. 1997 Uniform Building Code (UBC), Section 1806.8, page 2-45

4. Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA) - New York, NY

5. "Tapered Steel Poles - Caisson Foundation Design", Prepared for United States Steel Corporation by Teng and Associates, July 1969

Thanks for those references. EP486 was published by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers in 2000 for the design of pole barns and the post-frame industry. It addresses lateral loads (shear and moment), uplift and gravity loads on posts.
