power generator

I need to design or find a source for a small power generator, 1KW, 220 VAC, 1000Hz.

Any inputs would be greatly appreciated regarding how to design/find source for this. The generator will be run from a small gas powered engine.

Out of curiosity, what do you need a 1000-Hz generator for?

I have two parts of a system, separated by a long cable. The remote end is both weight and size sensitive. To deliver 60 Hz power would require far too large and heavy a transformer at the remote. The 1kHz power allows for much smaller and lighter power components at the remote end.

Maybe you can find some off the self surplus 2khz equipment left over from the international space station development. I heard they run a 2kHz buss for the same reason.

Scratch the comment about used space station part. It is kinda rediculas when you thimk about it. Custom solid-state switcher would probably be the best way. That is 5A, @220v, 1000Hz, probably easy for modern IGBT.

The first thing that comes to mind is an Automotive alternator. These produce frequencies of that order depending on Rpm. An eighty amp 14 volt alternator will give you around 1Kw, three phase. It may not be quite what you want but it is just an idea.

I did something like that a few years ago, fed the ac through three step up transformers to generate a very high dc voltage for my mobile ham rig. It made a very compact and efficient high power, high voltage dc supply.
