Greetings,

I am scaling up a new product that will be produced in a 3500 gallon batch reactor that is equipped with a anchor style impeller. Need to understand mixing characteristics and power draw for this unit. Trying to find some power number vs Reynolds number data for an anchor impeller. Thus far I have not found much useful material. Does anyone know where I might find this information?

An interesting note - there are 3 mixing baffles in the reactor as well. I find this design odd as the anchor and baffles would work against each other. The anchor tries to move fluid at the wall while the baffles tend to limit this. Has anyone had experience with this style of mixing system?

Thanks in advance,

JoeChem

Mixing scale-up is much more art than science. Power number is rarely the way to go. I'd do a study of something like "Fluid Mixing Technology" by Oldshue, the chapter on scale up, first, to make myself more comfortable about the model. Then you might find benefit to calling the mfr of the anchor blade to see if he some data.
