What code would all of the new piping welds inside of the power plant be made to ? Is it A.P.I 1104 or does it change to something else ? I was told that it is 1104 until it gets to a distribution skid , then changes to B31.1 to the burners but that doesn't sound right to me .

Thank you for your time

Start hanging around with a more experienced group...

Read the first section of ASME B31.1 (Scope, I believe) for a better definition of piping code boundaries.

Sr. Process Engineer

Generally the process side(converting coal to syngas)is done to B31.3 and the final fuel gas to CTG and/or steam system and ancillary cooling & lube oil systems are designed per B31.1.

MJCronin nailed it.
Each code has a section that defines its jurisdictional limits. Be careful to check with all stakeholders, sometime other entities get involved, for instance, DOT may require B31.4 inside the fence-line to the first vessel the pipeline is hooked up to.

What I stated was based on bidding two recent plants (one in construction and the other shelved) and providing maintenance services on one of the most recently completed and operating units.
