Hi guys - I'm looking for some comments / suggestions.
We are designing a mobile hydraulic system that's used around trucks. The obvious power source to drive the hydraulic power unit (HPU) is the 24V DC supply on the truck, drawing max. 100 Amps. However there are cases when it might be necessary to operate the system without a truck nearby. I had assumed it would be easy enough to get a portable petrol powered generator that produces 24V DC, and suitable for industrial/outdoor conditions, but searching the internet turned up very few DC generators - mainly 120/240V AC generators.
Now I have to decide: Stick with a 24V DC HPU or change to an AC powered HPU. I will still need to run the HPU from both a truck and from a portable generator, so the power supply of one or the other will have to be adapted.
The DC power solution provided some nice options for controlling the hydraulic flow and operating some solenoids. I'm biased toward that, but I don't have an off-the-shelf solution for a portable generator...
Any comments / suggestions / ideas / solutions are appreciated!
