Regarding Article AT-202.3,Section VIII Div.2
I would like to know exact meaning of "(a)be of the same p-number and Group number".

Does that mean the PQ test plates to be used shall be same P-no and Gr.-no regadless of Section IX requirements?

QW 403.5 states that if i qualify a procedure for p1 Gr1 to P1 Gr2,The WPS for P1 Gr1 to P1 Gr1 / P1 Gr2 to P1 Gr2 can be generated using this procedure without any change of essential variable when impact test is required.

Article AT in ASME B&PV Code, Section VIII, Div 2 pertains to “Impact Testing of Welds and Vessel Test Plates of Ferrous Material”. Paragraph AT-202 pertains to impact testing of base metal heat affected zones and weld metal. You need to review this entire article and determine if your base metal is exempt from impact testing AM-213 (c) or AM-218.2.

If impact tests are required for the weld metal, but the base metal is exempt per AM-213, you still need to qualify the weld procedure for the weld deposit. According to this paragraph, the test plate shall be of the same P-No and Group No. This is really no different to what is stated in Section IX for impact qualification of welding procedures. For impact qualification using Section IX, you need to invoke the Supplementary Essential Welding requirements for the particular welding process(s). Impact qualification typically must be performed on material of the same P-No and Group No because of even slight differences in chemical composition and/or heat treatment between ferrous materials of various Group No’s under the same P-No. These differences in chemical composition or heat treatment will affect the fracture toughness behavior of the material after welding.
