Greetings everyone,

I have a question on the Practical applicability of Remote Point behavior in Ansys Workbench.

My question:

When do we go for Rigid behavior and deformable behavior from application point of view.

I did go through the following links recommended and I didn't get the information on practical application of the behaviors.

Link-1 : Link-2 :
A real world example will help a lot.

Appreciate your help!

Thanks in advance,

It’s hard to list specific examples but the general rule is that if you don’t mind using stiff connection (so that the selected face can’t deform) like in case of modeling components as point masses attached to other parts, then rigid behavior should be the one to choose. However in some case you don’t want to add artificial stiffness to the model and prefer more flexible (and thus more realistic) connection that allows face deformation, then go for deformable behavior. So I would say that first choice is rigid but in specific cases use deformable.

You can find some comparisions of these approaches if you search for RBE2 vs RBE3. First one is equivalent to rigid behavior while second one corresponds to deformable behavior.
