I am a hobbyist refiner. I have been gifted with about 1 kg of gold plated pins. I would like to leach the gold using something like thiourea rather than cyanide. I have found papers that recommend adding acid without mention of which one, and oxidizers (again without mentioning which one). Can anyone point me in the right direction? I am not looking for handholding just a nudge or a hint as to how to proceed.

the best way to do is by leaching with sodium cyanide,,, the gold has to be gridding 4 mm mesh or lower..

Done it by leaching with tiourea is difficult some times because it has to have others metals that reduce the leaching rate and you will for sure you will no get fine gold.
