Preformace tab setting

If I open a small assembly and I look at my preformance tab under options I am able to set the Transperency and also adjust the level of detail slider. If I open a larger assembly these items are greyed out. Can someone tell me why? As I rotate the larger assembly everything turns to blocking view.

In Large Assembly mode, that is standard setting. You may have the "number of components" set too low.

Tools > Options > System Options > Assemblies
