B31.3 refers to the Sec VIII Div 1 procedure for the external pressure
calculations. The allowable external pressure for a given material is
primarily depended upon the thickness of the shell and the length between
the stiffening elements along the length. How is this length, along a
piping run, determined for a calculation. Curved and mitered sections are
also to be treated as equivalent straight sections.
