Hi folks

I looking to install pressure gauge at suction and discharge lines of pump operate at level 880 meter

I looking to guidelines rules to determine the location of gauges

Also is the levation must take in the consideration
??

Any PDF reference will be fully appressiate
Warm regards

John,

A straight bit of pipe is best at least 2D away from an elbow, reducer, valve etc.

You need to know the level of the guage when using any readings relative to the pump flange centre line.

There are many pump and piping guides and websites, but very few if no "code" requirements.

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Hi littlenech
Ohk is there possible to provide me guide line according code ?

Or any dependent reference to built on it

Thank you birr

Is there any another source from asme or api ??

You can check out API RP 686 "Machinery Installation and Installation Design". The following is from Chapter 6 which covers piping. There's also figures that show typical locations of such items.

2.6 Pressure Connections and Thermowells

2.6.1 Pressure measurement connections complete with isolation valves shall be provided on the inlet and outlet
piping to and from all machinery. Additional pressure connections shall not be made to the machinery casing.

2.6.2 The inlet pressure connection shall be located between any permanent or temporary start-up strainer and the
machinery inlet piping flange (see Figure B.3).

Hi folks

Thank you for your valuable input

Now regarding second point
For given total head ( design pressure )
Hot can select pressure range of pressure gauge ?
How can determine if the existing pump working head same as design head or there is difference ?
Elevation of work pump from sea level is it effect on calculation ?

Is there example or reference to support the idea ?

Thanks again

The pressure gauge you choose must be the correct one for the:

[ul]
[li]Expected pressure range to be measured. The selected range should typically be double the operating range.[/li]
[li]Process media compatibility.[/li]
[li]Process temperature[/li]
[li]Severe operating conditions (e.g., vibrations, pulsations, pressure spikes).[/li]
[/ul]

Note that pumps do not create pressure, pumps create flow. The resistance to flow in the piping system is what creates the pressure.

Every foot of elevation change causes a 0.433 PSI change in water pressure. If your discharge pipe is going downhill add 0.433 PSI of pressure per vertical foot the pipe goes down. If your discharge pipe is going uphill, subtract 0.433 PSI of pressure per vertical foot the pipe goes upward.
