Pressure Gauges?

Hello,

I read the FM Global Code 7-32, and there is a rule regarding pressure gauges to reduce leakage to a minimum:

"Use restricted orifices in piping connecting the gauges to the equipment."

Would this juste be a needle valve? Or is it referring to some other device?

This would be an orifice plate or some other permanent restriction but not a valve. The idea is that if the gauge fails you have a small hole for the material to escape through. This is common on highly hazardous lines.

But if you just slightly crack open a needle valve, wouldn't it work just the same? Are there any standard parts that could be used? It is 1/4" NPT gauges that will be installed. The liquid is jet fuel.

An orifice plate is permanently set, while a valve can be adjusted, and can be potentially adjusted to the point of providing no protection.

But do they exist as standard parts? Or are there gauges that come with this feature? An orifice-type gauge for instance?

Would pressure gauge Snubbers fit the bill for what you want?

A cracked open needle valve will do the job but is not fool proof.
A pressure gauge snubber as suggested by Stonecold.that screwed into the connection will do the job.Snubber are commonly used for dampening out fluctuating pressure.Available off the shell.
