I'm having to review a relief system that protects a vessel designated as a compressor discharge pulsation bottle. Physically, it looks like a high pressure gas cylinder, about 8 inch diameter x 6 feet overall length but it carries an ASME U stamp and is designated with two MAWPs. The second MAWP is followed by the text "Appendix 22".
I checked ASME Sec VIII Appendix 22 and understand the difference in how the two MAWPs are established but I'm not clear how the Appendix 22 MAWP relates to relief system design.
Would it be acceptable to have a relief valve set higher than the MAWP established by Part UF but set below the MAWP as allowed by Appendix 22?
