A PRV would originally (if at all) be set, certified and a certificate would be issued and follow the valve. The valve would in some cases be plombed against tampering.
The general conditions for certificate and valve would have to be compared to the rules and necessary certification and approvals required for the local use, both for the valve and the total plant.
Sorry about the roundabout answer, I do not think you will find a general standard, valid all over the world, for all cases.
I think you're right. There is no global standard. Even the local /company practices are vague at best. My company's Global Practices specification states that a pressure relief valve must be "shop tested" or certified before but no more than 60 days pryor to be put into service.
I was just curious if someone may have known of a governing body that sets a strict guideline for valves sitting, waiting to be installed. I browsed through API and ABSA (our local boilermakers).The bulk of the data is for valves that are already in service.
I don't believe you'll find anything - the fact that the valve is sitting there in your stores doing nothing has very little impact on its set point or ability to work correctly. Therefore there is little point testing it other than creating some work for the test station.
