While reviewing the requirements for pressure relieving devices for pressure vessels in LPG service, I came across NFPA N° 58-Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code, that in 5.2.1.1 allows tanks under DOT regulations, ASME BPVC Section VIII or API-ASME Code for Unfired Pressure Vessels for Petroleum Liquids and Gases, except for UG-125 through UG-136.

I know that UG-125 through UG-136 are part of BPVC Section VIII, but in the way the exception was written, it may be that API-ASME Code has the same paragraph numbering and the exception applies to this code only. Anybody knows if API-ASME code also has UG-125 through UG-136?

API 510 covering pressure vessels gives no mention of UG-125 through UG-136, and is not numbered as such. API Code for Pressure-Relieving and Depressuring Systems paragraph 5.21.4.1 refers you back to UG-125 through UG-137 in ASME Section VIII, so there's a good bet its that paragraph is referring to ASME VIII code, not API.

But the specific code refered to is the old API-ASME that is not in use any more, but still is mentioned in several current regulations. Anybody has or had a copy of it to confirm it does not use "UG" to label paragraphs?

Mr. Thill-

I'm quite familiar with PCC-2. I keep a copy on my desk. The other codes and standards go on my bookshelf.

Instead of a short, cryptic response, could you consider providing a bit more detail as to what part of PCC-2 would help the original poster resolve his issue?

garfio-

The 1951 API-ASME Code for Unfired Pressure Vessels for Petroleum Liquids and Gases has its pressure relief device requirements in paragraphs W-600 thru W-611.

The 1952 ASME Section VIII has the corresponding paragraphs as UG-125 thru UG-134.

Let me know if you need an earlier edition of the API-ASME Code checked.

Thanks jte. It seems that the paragraphs numbered with "UG" in the NFPA 58-2004 refers to the ASME BVPC and not to the API-ASME Code.

I found that this is also consistent to NFPA 59, which has the same wording and tanks exception to the same paragraphs, but mentions only the ASME BPVC.
