Pressure vessel cooling jacket out of service. 1

We have a coded pressure vessel onsite that is considered a pressure vessel because its cooling jacket is pressurized to 45 psi. The inner contents are at atmospheric pressure. We have taken its cooling jacket out of service, and we are now only using it as an atmospheric vessel. Is this vessel still considered a pressure vessel that we would need to R stamp to make repairs on?

Normally both the vessel and jacket will be stamped. Are you saying this situation is an atmospheric tank (what code?) with an ASME stamped jacket?

@RVAmeche, Sort of. The vessel has a national board number. The Jacket has a MAWP of 45 psi, and the Drum has a MAWP of Atmospheric. We have taken the Jacket out of service, but we are still using the drum. I am wondering if I still need to treat the vessel as a pressure vessel as we have taken the pressurized portion out of service.

Well somehow you need to de classify the vessel. Remove the nameplate and add something to your records stating what has happened.

Maybe write to the local or national board?

Mark or paint onto the vessel itself something that prevents the jacket from ever being used again or weld a plate over the connections?
