I have a question about the scope of ASME VIII Div. 1: Is included in ASME VIII Div.1 scope a pressure vessel design for operate in a FPSO (floating production storage and offloading)?
I have some doubt beucause in ASME VIII Div. 1 and Div.2 state:
item 2 of U-1 in ASME VIII Div. 1 states: "...the following
classes of vessels are not included in the scope of this Division.....(-a) those within the scope of other Sections"
And in ASME VIII Div. 2 item 1.2.1.2 states:
"Rules of this Division may be used for the construction of the following pressure vessels....:"
(b) Pressure vessels installed in ocean-going ships, barges, and other floating craft....
make sure that Laws, Rules and Regulations such as IGC of SOLAS/IMO and their relative MARINE CLASS rules/amendments do not have precedence over other Pressure Vessel Codes such as EN 13445 or ASME.BPVC.
Some design and construction rules may differ from those Codes.
If the vessel qualifies as a Sec. VIII-1/2 vessel when installed onshore, it can also be designed with Sec. VIII-1/2 offshore, with the additional consideration of classification society requirements, fatigue from ship motion, different wind/motion load combinations depending on its probability of occurrence, probably some blast scenarios, and hull bending.
