Im looking at an equation for calculating the thickness of a flat head of a pressure vessel and do not have an asme book at my disposal. I am just wondering in calculating the thickness is the pressure term supposed to be absolute internal pressure, or the pressure differential between inside and outside.

The job im looking at is relatively low pressure and the differences in which pressure is used makes a big difference in the thickness, just want to be safe.

Thank you

Always gage pressure. Absolute pressure does not make sense from a statics perspective.
