Due to limited options, My colleague was tasked to design a bridge, combination of 36m Type V or VI std AASHTO girder for span 1 and a flat slab bridge of 10m. Steel girder was not included on the options. Another option is the modified type VI, which we designed by increasing the top flanged; came up with number of strands, but opted not to use it.

Question: How and what are the considerations in designing this 2-span bridge?

In the back of my mind, I would try to model it with 1 pier, free at pier for both spans and Integral Abutments.
Another is to model it single span, the pier acting as pier-abutment, integral at one abutment and free at the pier-abutment, the flatslab acting as "long approach slab"

any comments? thanks!
