How can I install a steel sleeve into an aluminum part and prevent it from moving radially or axially? It should be mechanical in nature like staking etc? I can provide pics or sketches if required.

Assuming the loads are significant, and Loctite is not appropriate for some reason, I'd favor threads and axial driven keys, like a Keensert.

If you give it a little time I would expect galvanic corrosion to prevent relative motion between the two parts.

What is the purpose of this steel sleeve?

If the purpose is to provide a good locating bore and proper support for a ball or roller bearing, it is a good idea.
Harley Davidson and others do this with a cast in insert
Installing the sleeve with an Initial interference greater than expected thermal expansion of aluminum housing is an initial requirement.

Pics or sketches would be helpful.

Apparently the OP thinks this is some kind of service that will send an answer to his gmail account.

No I don't think it will post an anwer to my Gmail.

Actually, thank you to all for the posted answers. It gets us doing more thinking. Still nothing we can use...yet.

Please send more ideas.

The split bearing ideas are cool, but there are seals on the part that fits inside so the line would create a cut situation.

So, this steel sleeve must not move, and now has to be sealed? Static or dynamic components, sealing grease, oil, water, high vacuum, atmospheric pressure, direct water jet impingment, 30 meters depth?

I'm sorry, but I feel a little like I'm playing that insipid US game show with Howie Mandel, ( having to guess wildly, but without even the benefit of "models" to look at.

A flanged insert would not move axially in one direction.

Tmoose, send me your email address and I will send you a print and/or model. I don't know how to post that here.

Tmoose, or better yet I coul send a pic of the application and you can offer ideas that way?

shrink fit:-aproximately sleeve od bigger than bore=0.10 to 0.15mm.as well as use four grub screws to lock the slleve:-make drill and tap at the daimetrically, screw secured with loctite.
