Printing Mathcad to a PDF file

Whenever I print MAthcad models to a PDF file using Acrobat writer the symblos such as the "=" change to "?". Alos I get double"??" and reverse "?".

Is this a Nathcad bug or something to do with Acrobat? Sharing knowledge is a way to immortality

Are you using PDFWriter or Distiller? PDFWriter is quite lame and has problems, even with Word documents. Distiller seems to be much more capable and robust. TTFN

I have Acrobat 4 with Mathcad 11 and have had no problems.

suggest you reinstall one or both of the programs. TTFN

Mathcad 2000 works fine with Acrobat PDF.

However it will not work with earlier versions of Mathcad, such as Mathcad 6:

I work in Mathcad 6 and then read and save in Mathcad 200 then print to Distiller in Acrobat PDF format.

I use MathCAD 7 and print to a postscript file using a standard color printer driver, which is then converted to pdf via adobe distiller 4

This method has proven to be the most reliable for me, with good results every time.

Even thought Destiller perform better than Writer, I had similar problem with Word and other pdf files. The solution was upgrade the acrobat font library.

I guess this could be a potential problem with MathCad. Try change the font in your MathCad document.

SUGGESTION: Try changing the ":=" sign by "=", select MATH, OPTION, DISPLAY, and change the default for EQUAL. Print with Writer again and check if help.

If you get a hangup when printing from <anything> directly to Distiller (or Distiller Assistant), then do it in two steps.
First, set up a dummy ps printer in Windows, which will &quot;print to file&quot;. It can be an Apple color laserprinter, or something like that. You don't need to have the printer, This is just a set of parameters to use when the print file is created.

1. Print from Mathcad to this dummy printer, which creates a file on disk. This will be a print file in the postscript language format.
2. Start Distiller, and use it to open the print file and create a PDF file. You can mess with job options for font embedding, etc, as much as you need. (tweak settings, distill file. check file, repeat as needed.) When you get it right, save the job options for future use.
You may need to tell distiller where the fonts are that Mathcad is using.

Anyway- this prevents hangups when printing, and allows quicker experimentation with job options, etc.
