Pro/Assembly - Open in Separate Window

Guys,

We use Pro/E 2001 on a UNIX platform and have an annoying problem that I thought I would ask if you could help.

When assembling components into an assembly I like to open the new component into the separate window so that it is easier to choose constraints etc. This works fine, but when you hit OK to finally assemble the part and then choose to assemble another component the separate window flashes up quickly with the new component displayed, then disappears (even though the separate window checkbox is ticked).

Is this a bug??
Is it fixable??
Can you have the separate window displayed by default??

Thanks people,
Lee

Lee,

This might be bug. What date code are you using? I'm using 2001 date code 2002480 and it works for me.

I stand corrected......it just did it to me. Pro/E 2001 seems to be flakey when it comes to multiple windows. I'm going to keep hacking at this.

When I was running 2001 on Unix we had the same problem. There was a menu bar that could be activated that would give you the same functionality that Windoze user had. It had a Start button on the left hand side you could pull down to start applications and then when you iconed your windows they would go up into this title bar. I think I was called "Window Manager" or "Menu Manager" something to that effect. Anyway, when we moved to Intralink and 2001 they told us not to use it but we did anyway. Seems that you had to install it when you installed Pro/E. Sorry I can't remember all the specifics to it as I don't have access to Pro/E anymore.

Heckler,

Good luck with the hacking - let me know if you come up with anything....

I'm not sure if this config option is available in 2001 but you can give it a shot.
Comp_assemble_start The first value is "package" which puts the component to be placed at the end of the cursor. This is kind of nice except there are a few more mouse picks to get to the constraint options. The other value is "constrain_in_window" which will open the component in its own window which I believe is what you're looking for. However, this value has its drawbacks as well. When you finish constraining the component, the component does not show up in the assembly until after you hit the preview button. Some things ptc just can't get right.

Comp_assemble_start is part of 2001 but constrain_in_window is not a 2001 config file

Well well well. Looks like we meet again. Hey, wait a minute, are you mheckler? The reason I'm asking is because I see a bunch of parts in our ilink that have your name next to them. I didn't realize your first name was Michael but I saw a post here on this site a few months back that you had signed with your name. As luck would have it, I was searching our ilink for some fasteners and I saw there were a few with mheckler next to them. I better stay away from those.

Joe,

You must have me mistaken with someone else. My name is MUDD not Michael! what's you aerospace specialty?

Best Regards,

Heckler
