this is a new problem that started once I removed adobe reader. I had both adobe acrobat 8 and reader 7 on this machine and removed reader. Before I could insert a pdf into mathcad with no problems using: insert, object, create from file, browse.... Now when I insert a pdf, the image doesn't show up, just the file name with the pdf symbol in a small rectangular box shows up in the mathcad document. The pdf file will then automatically open ok - in a separate window with adobe. If I double click on the icon in mathcad it will open that pdf

I assume this is a very basic setting somewhere, maybe not even in mathcad, that has something to do with my removing pdf reader, and I am going to feel like an idiot when someone tells me the answer LOL.

In windows I have set acrobat as the default to open a pdf; if I double click on a pdf in windows explorer, it opens the file.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried to repair the acrobat 8 installation? Something may have been lost when you removed reader 7.

I have a similar problem with drawings inserted with Autocad LT. On sheets where I inserted a drawing using an older version of Autocad LT that has since been upgraded, Mathcad can't find the program to open the drawing. I've never been able to figure out how to tell Mathcad where the new program is. Now I always save the drawing as separate file so I can insert it again if necessary.

ok, I finally got back to this issue today. I tried and had the same problem when inserting a pdf into word so as expected it's definitely an adobe problem. As suggested, I performed a repair on acrobat and that fixed it.

I don't really know what the issue was, but basically it was inserting the file as an icon and that box was NOT checked when you go thru the insert procedure.

Thanks to davidbeach for that tip!
