Problem Renaming iParts

I have some funky behavior using Inventor 11 (not my choice to not upgrade...) and renaming of iParts and iAssemblies.

Let us say I have an iPart called "TEST_PART.ipt" and it has children with member-names "TEST_PART-1.ipt" and "TEST_PART-2.ipt".

Now I have all of this checked into vault.

I rename (using Vault) the factory "TEST_PART.ipt" to something else. "1234.ipt".

Problem: The children do not rename. I would expect the membername and partnumber of the children to become "1234-1.ipt and 1234-2.ipt". They do not. They are still "TEST_PART-1 and 2".
When I check out the factory for edit, it will warn me that the part number no longer jives, however it will only fix the currently selected member (a problem if I have 50+ members in a factory!). I need to manually edit the table to correct all of the part numbers. And I CANNOT manually correct the MEMBER NAMES, since that will break all links with parent assemblies! I thought the point of Vault was to handle this renaming and re-establishing of the links?

Is this an artifact of my ancient version 11 or am I misunderstanding how this is supposed to work?

sadly I believe this is how it is.. I've always been told Vault does not play nicely with iparts/iassemblies.

So it is still like this in 2010+?

I specifically asked our cad-resellers this question and I got a sort of "oh, of course it works well with iParts" response.

I don't see a way around using iParts, but they cause me all kinds of grief in trying to make them behave.

I haven't implemented vault (yet but soon) but I can verify that even without Vault when you rename the parent you need to manually edit each child to update the part number. Sorry

Change your part number in the iPart table or through Excel. Exit the editor, select all your iPart children in the browser of your parent iPart, RMB and select 'generate files'. Will replace all the children with new files and your new part number.
