Problem with NX 11 Motion Simulation

Hello,

at the moment i'm working with NX 11 Motion on a complex model.
The definition of links, joints and drivers works fine and the resulting animation is as expected.

I want to expand the model now with several parts but the "add components" function doesn't work and leads to the error „This function cannot apply to a scenario part.“

Is it not possible to expand an existing model after i created an simulation of it?
(The "exchange component" function does work...)

I would be really thankful for any hints or solutions!

Greeetings,
Christian

It sounds like you have the wrong work part when you select "Add component".
I imagine ( have not tried this myself ) that you must add your new components to your assembly and not the "scenario" part above the assy.

Yes , you can expand , if this means add new / more components / details , the model after you have created an simulation.
That is how i used to do it, start off by simulating a "skeleton" and when i see that this works i add or replace with the real models .

Tomas

Hello Tomas,

thanks for your fast reply!

I'm glad to hear that it is possible to expand the model afterwards (otherwise this tool would be really uncomfortable).

Unfortunately I still couldn't figure out how to add a new component.

My procedure so far:
- setting up/ editing the motion simulation (scenario instance)
- switching from motion to construction mode (assembly instance)
- now I'm in the parts-navigator and I try to use the add-function under Components
--> the above mentioned error appears

I'm explicitly picking the assembly and not the scenario without any success..

Greetings,
Christian

Have a look at the Assembly navigator, does it look similar to this ?:
motion_sim_rddzbs.png

Make sure that you "have left the postprocessor" ( press the "return to model" button)
File - Modeling
then Right click your assembly ( see "_assy" in the picture) and make it your displayed part.

Motion Simulation creates an "assembly" above your assembly where all the motion simulation things are saved.

NX should automaticly return to the motion_1 when you again select Motion appl.

Tomas

Tomas thank you so much!

I did everything what you described but always missed the step to set my assembly as displayed part.
(In my opinion not very intuitive...)
Now everything works as intended.

Best regards and thanks again,
Christian
