problems with VADD 2

Hi,

When I make a complex volume with keypoints, I do this by creating sub volumes, and use the VADD command to merge the volumes into one volume. In the help file is written that the original volumes (and their corresponding areas, lines and keypoints) will be deleted.

The problem is that the lines between the subvolumes doesn't get deleted. This lines can be seen when meshed, and when the volumes are plotted.

Does somebody know what I'm doing wrong, and why I don't get one big volume (without those lines)? Thanks in advance.

In Ansys, geometry is supposed to be created from the bottom up. So while you can add volumes together Ansys doesn't know how to condense them and get rid of unnecessary lines, areas, etc. The best way to do what you're asking is to delete the volumes only (VDEL,,,,0) and trim/delete whatever areas or lines are unnecessary so what you are left with is the final shell (areas) which will define the exterior of the volume. Once you have this you can use the VA command to produce the result you're looking for. It's a major inconvenience I know. Or you can just create your geometry with a CAD program which is probably the preferred method for most.

Hi,
there is one "caveat" with what Stringmaker says: if the final volume has voids (e.g. a plate with a hole), this topology won't be recognized by the VA command. In the example, you will have to create the plate first, then the "hole" as an another volume, then subtract the "hole" from the plate...
Otherwise, if you see that the VADD volume has been created correctly, but some areas/lines remain (and you are sure you won't need them any more), you can ADELE,all then LDELE,all then KDELE,all: the areas/lines/keypoints involved in the volume won't be deleted (you will get some warning messages...), but all the "unlinked" ones will.

The problem is resolved using substract operations
