First, let me start by saying I'm not a metallurgist or a materials engineer. My experience is in Quality Assurance and Supply Chain, but I have a question that I'm hoping someone with some experience may be able to help me with. I have a supplier that is performing a process called "kosterizing" or "kolsterizing" and I am wondering what exactly the process is? Is it proprietary to the supplier we are purchasing the service from? Is there an equivalent process that other service providers could provide for us? Appreciate any help that can be offered!

Thanks, @MintJulep. Do you happen to know of any similar processes that are not the intellectual property of Bodycote?

Simple Google. Afaik not a proprietary process bound to 1 manufacture. It’s based on diffusion of carbon. Other aqual processes exist as well, though some try to achieve the same effect with e.g. nitrogen.

I’m pretty more knowledgeable members here may provide more in-depth details but this should give you a first lead.
