Do you have the same machine ID as before? It is displayed on the install startup screen (perhaps elsewhere too). Or you can run ptchostid. The ID is a string of 6 2 digit hex numbers like 00-0B-BD-12-35-A1. This comes from your network card so if you have changed the network card you need a new license. You may have more than one network card in which case you may need to change the order as Pro/E looks at the first one only.

well I am installing it on my laptop and yes it has a wireless network card .... how do i change that order?
thanks for your reply

You will need to do some registry editing to tell Windows which one is the primary MAC address.

1) Insert you Pro/E Setup CD and look at the host id that the splash screen shows (down in the lower left corner I beleive).

2) Now go to Start > Run type in cmd. At the dos prompt type ipconfig /all. Note which network card Pro/E is getting the Host Id from.

3) Go to Start > Run and type in Regedit. This will open up the registery editor. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > MICROSOFT > WINDOWS_NT>CURRENT VERSION > NETWORK CARDS. You should see two entries here. Click on each of these folders and you should see a description of each network card. Now match up the card from Step 2 and rename that folder to 1 and the other to say 3 or 4. The numbers only matter in the fact that the one that pro/e sees needs to be before the other one.

4) You will need to reboot for the settings to change.

OK, I found that its getting hostid from my wireless card
In the registry editor that folder was named 12 and there were others, 3 and 4. So, i renamed 12 to 1, restarted my laptop and went to install it again, same error :(

oh wait a sec....sorry i just found this

when I go ipconfig/all , ti shows both of my cards...how do I know which one is being used

first is shows my network card and then my wireless card

sorry for such silly questions but I don't know too much about computers

ok here's the newest update:

I made my network card primary and pro eng recognized it, and i also connected my internet connection directly to my laptop...but i still get the same error message

Does the license file have the computer name AND the wireless NIC address on the SERVER line?

You may need to get PTC to issue a new license file to match your wireless NIC address.

^^ not sure, don't think so .... which line would that be

Look in the license file sent by PTC for a line beginning with the word SERVER.
