Hello can anyone help me we have an application where we need to weld a steel tube 20mm dia into a mild steel pressing 1.25mm thk. This operation will require 10000/day, Robotic welding can't be justified, Projection welding has been suggested if this is the best way where can I find out more about it.
If anyone has any better ideas we would like to here them.

Thanks
Darren.

For projection welding you can talk to some of the manufacturers of such equipment. Three that I know of from recent experience are:

Rumble Automation
Mississauga, Ontario
Phone 905.567.2000
Make their own machines

Newcor Bay City Division
Bay City, Michigan
Make their own machines

D.T. Peer
St. Joseph, Michigan
They rep for Impuls (a German company)

Is the pressing powdered metal or a forging? I am assuming it is powdered metal. If so, what is the chemistry? I work for Edison Welding Institute in Columbus, OH. We have significant experience with projection welding applications and have also had previous success in joining steel to powdered metal using projection welding. If you are interested, I would like to speak to you further regarding the application.

Feel free to give me a call to discuss this further.

Sincerely,
