An engineer in Colorado, USA who has to ask THE WORLD what the "460" is in (temp+460) really needs all the abuse that can be piled on.

As far as dumb questions go, that's far from it.
I bet he can use the software though.

What would you be doing, if you knew that you could not fail?

Have you been eating raw meat again David? [wink]

If you think that's bad you wanna see some of the stuff coming through the electrical fora...

Oops! I commented in the linked thread. Dumb.

Hokie,
I RF'd your other post, it doesn't make sense out of context.

Dumb or not, I couldn't answer it. The guy did register as "Industrial", which could mean anything, even maybe one of us uneducated Civils. The only time we use Rankine is for lateral earth pressure.

Some years ago, I was teaching a controls class at UCLA. I put an equation of the feedback loop on the board, full of gain terms "K" and physical terms relating to mass, stiffness, damping, etc. I made some argument about what was necessary for the stability of the system.

A question comes up from the front row: "Is your argument strictly only true for positive gain values?" Excellent question, and I answered yes.

He follows up with, "And is it also only true for positive values of mass?"

While I am trying to figure out the best way of answering this, he realizes what he has asked, and sheepishly says, "Uh, never mind..."

Then from the back of the class comes, "And they say there's no such thing as a stupid question!"
