properties of alluminum alloy 6005 T6 1

Hello all,

I am working on a project that involves some pretty complex 6061 aluminum extrusions. The extrusion company is trying to push me to switch to 6005 saying that its mechanical properties are identical. Although I have found information that confirms 6005 T5 has similar tensile strength numbers to 6061 T6 I have yet to find a "complete" properties sheet and no mention of 6005 T6. Details such as machinability, formability, Hardness, shearing strength and elongation, corrosion are N/A on some sheets. I will be bending machining, welding and heat treating this stuff so I would like to know the real properties of the material before I commit to it.

Anyone have experiance with this stuff?

6005-T5 does not have "identical" mechanical properties to 6061-T6. The specified minimum properties for extrusions in ASTM B 221/B 221M are the same, but actual properties are almost always higher for 6061-T6. Matweb shows typical values, but for definitive data you either need to confer with Alcoa (or similar) or review authoritative references such as those from ASM International. Here are some links:
