We have a water tank that stores water for plant process aswell as drinking purpose. the tank is rmajor repair.

We need to protect the inside of this tank and wish to use a good protective coating that would not affect the potable water quality also.

Please suggest is it allowed to apply protective coating inside of a drinking water tank? if not, what is the alternative??

Did you try a search of the site? There was a recent discussion on this very forum about coatings in potable water tanks.

In view of the carcenogenic properties, Are Coal Tar coatings still allowed inside potable water tanks?

No coal Tar inside potable water tank.

I would definitely NOT use coal tar inside a potable water tank!

Epoxies are common, 100% solids epoxies are preferable - I've had reports on some certified potable water epoxies which were installed in cold weather with poor ventilation. Notable water quality complaints (taste, odor) resulted.
