Protective Relaying Quick Reference

Even though the title of this book implies it is for Protective Relaying, there is a lot of other information, ranging from basic electrical relationships, power transformers, Ct sizing & connections, conductors, trig and conversion tables.
The book is 130 pages and is a small spiral bound, 4.5"x5" book. This makes it handy to keep in a briefcase or out at the job for quick refernce when needed.
It is available for $24.95 plus shipping from System Protection Services in Lewiston, ID, website is I'm not affiliated in any way with that company, I'm employed by a small investor owned utility company in the USA and wear many hats - supervisor for Line crew, generating station operators, station electricians, and hydro turbine mechanics, as well as being responsible for safety, environmental, electrical engineering (operations, relays, meters, etc.), so for me it is nice to use for a snity check.

Is the book any good? Does it covers all the major protection applications including transformer, bus, motor, generator and line protection? In addition, does it detail types of relays available such as O/C, differential, undervoltage, directional and pilot for the above equipment and how they should be connected? I was just wondering how practical the book is as the index of the book shown on the web link does not include the above items.

This book is not meant to teach you about the various relays and connections (the theory) but is for the knowledgeable person who just sometimes needs or wants a handy reference when doing field work or a handy on the road type reference.
It does contain protection summaries for 50/51, 67, 21, 87, 87Z, DUTT, PUTT, POTT, DCB,& DCUB. It does have a section on CT sizing and PT & CT connections.

I orderd the book. It contains exactly what wbd says. However, there was nothing new or earth shattering in it. It is a compilation of information I already have in one place versus across several sources.

If that is worth $25 plus shipping, get it. It was not worth it for me.

Just one opinion...

I like the GE book linked and have used it many times.

Two great things about it:
#1 - it's free
#2 - if you're near a computer with internet access, you can always get to it.... unlike my hardcopy references which always seem to be at home when I'm at work or vice versa.
