Psv Application For Interconnected Pressure Vessel

Hi all,

Please share your ideas about how to introduce Relief devices for interconnected vessel.Is it required to install separate PSV for each vessel? Any supporting standards(code) for this case?

Please refer the process given below
Service-Natural gas,4-6 barg, 15-55 deg C
Vessel package description-Filter coalescer Separator ( contain two separate vessels, one is filter and other is drain collector)
Vessel size- Filter- 2X6 m, drain- 0.5X6 m
Interconnecting line size - 2" pipe, 0.5m long (3 no.s)
Vessel orientation- Horizontal(both,filter on top)

Tinble, you are not required to install a separate relief valve for each vessel. As long as the installation meets the requirements of ASME VIII then a single valve can do the trick. Things to watch out for:

- no block valves in the relief valve from either piece of equipment
- MAWPs of equipment and set pressure of device is such that neither piece of equipment can be overpressured beyond code limits (consider pressure drop in the flow path during relief, could lead to exceeding MAWP by too much)
- the "relief path" from both pieces of equipment has at least the area of the relief valve inlet (i.e. no restrictions in the line below the relief valve area such as orifices, valves, fittings)

I don't think anyone here can answer whether a single valve is adequate for your system though. It depends on the relief cases identified, geometry, etc. Good luck!
 
What you have there is a single pressure vessel so a single PSV will be sufficient.
