All,
Is anybody aware of any testing best practice for Safety Relief Valve (SRV).
There is any formal pass or fail criteria in order to enable a full investigation to be triggered.

Is a fail criteria of 10% above the set pressure is considered as a good pass/fail criteria to evaluate SRV perfromance? Any standard or best practice?

Thanks in advance.

There is a way of testing safety valves on line it is called Trevitest. “The Trevitest Mark VIII has the ability to measure a valve's spindle deflection, (lift potentiometer) or valve discharge (acoustic detection), as well as inlet pressure (pressure transducer). This is in addition to measuring the spring relaxation force (load cell) that had been available with previous versions. These new capabilities enable users to more accurately select the critical measurements of force and line pressure when entering an assessment of set pressure for a particular valve”.

There is a software package for general RBI (Risk Based Inspections) of Pressurised Systems which covers PSV's. It is marketed by a company called Tischuk, the package is called T-OCA 2000, I believe they also market a stripped down version just for PSV's
