PTB in Braunschweig switches night to day for Swiss farmers 1

Swizerland hasn't introduced DST throughout the whole nation. The kantons decide for themselves and cheese-producing areas like Allgau and Appenzell have gone for it. They use the Physikalisch-Technische Bundenanstalt in Braunschweig to keep track of DST via a special channel - it's called Schwyzerfrequenz - that has been set up for the few regions in Switzerland that use DST.

It seems, however, that the all-important Day/Night patch was inadvertently removed from the patch-board (yes old technology) and now, no-one knows either to make a new one or even where to put it - if it is ever found.

The farmers are in deep truoble. "We can handle it, ourselves" farmer Mülhausen says "But it is very difficult to explain to the cows why they have to stay outside the barn at night and inside in the day."

It is expected that cheese production will be down by at least 35 percent if the situation can't be rectified, a local spokesman says.

Why would they bother trying to impose the nonsense of "Daylight Savings Time" (sic) on cows? That makes about as much sense as DST does to begin with.

What exactly is a "Schwyzerfrequenz"? From a googling-in-English point of view, that word seems to be ogooglebar. :)

I didn't expect to have an opportunity to use the word ogooglebar on such the perfect target. LOL.

Well, you know. Our cattle aren't free-ranging on the prairies like yours.
They are kept in stables and cared for by employees that are affected by what the local government decides - like the DST. There's also the transportation system that obeys the local regulations. And much more. So, as much as I agree with your verdict (DST is a STOOPID thing), there isn't much I can do about it.

May I remind you that I live in Sweden - not in Switzerland. We are constantly being relocated by people that knows more about our whereabouts than we do [viking2]

People? Uncountable - should it be "people that know" instead of "people that knows"?

"Ogooglebar" is a recent Swedish news item, right?

I'm closer to the diurnal cycle than most people. I look to the sky often and with interest. I don't own a watch. I run by where the sun is and adjust my westerly facing curtains a lot to prevent being roasted but allowing the nice after sunset light into my workspace. DST is extremely disturbing to all this. It takes literally months for my mind to make the shift. Just in time for the #(@%&^%# opposite shift. I'd like to strangle the numbskulls that foisted this on us all.

Yes, VE1BLL. The term "ogooglebar" means "ungoogleable" and means that you don't find much if you try to find out about a date in advance. Or anything else that you want to know more about and that hasn't been on the internet for the crawlers to find.

The Swedish Language Council (we have councils for anything) put together a list with nely created words recently and it didn't take long for Google to find out (they are in that kind of business) and they didn't like what the Swedish Language Council had don. Google threatened the Swedish Language Council with legal actions if they didn't remove the word "ogooglebar" from their list.

There are quite a few people around the World that found it not a bit but very much OTT. Swedish Language Council has removed the word from their list and the big looser is Google. As expected.

And, yes Keith, I'm against that DST stupidity also.

At first I thought you meant this, Gunnar.
50-vehicle pileup in Switzerland
About 50 cars were involved in the pileup but no one was seriously injured during a pileup on the A9 motorway near Chexbre in Switzerland
Does this mean the Kantons are stuck on DST and can't get back?

Possibly two different crashes.
Note to self; I shouldn't post before finishing my first cup of coffee.
But thanks for sharing with us.
