Public works naming convention

I'm compiling a large database of ADA sidewalk ramps for a city and I'm trying to find an efficient (and established) naming convention for them. Considering that there may be as many as 8 ramps per intersection, there's bound to be a more efficient way of identifying them than saying something like, "NW EW-bound ramp at intersection of Polk and 24th". I'm sure some DOTs or Cities must've implemented a streamlined naming system for this. Any references or precedents addressing this conceren would be a big help to me.

Being as you are developing a database I think it would be more efficient to number the ramps. You would have 1 (or probably 2) fields for the street names(or better yet numbers from a roadway inventory or best an intersection ID number which can be traced back to a intersection description) and then a number 1-8 for which ramp it is. The beauty of this system is you can then have a reference table with the description of the ramp and it can be changed in one place quick and easy.

So you could define:
1 ="NW corner EW Ramp"
2= "NW corner NS Ramp"
etc....

I realize this does not exactly answer your question but I hope it can help streamline your database a bit.
