i want to ask what is allowable length between screen filter mesh 100 and it sisolation valve on inlet of pump
iam installing anew horizontal pump that
the configuration on inlet as
1- gate valve (isolation)
2- striner ( mesh 100)
3- pump
what is the minmum allowable distance between them
What is the size of the suction line from the source to the suction isolation valve?
What is the size of the suction nozzle of the pump?
What is the commodity (Fluid) in this line?
What is the operating pressure and temperature of this system?
I don't thinks that there is a requirement for minimum space allowable. The spacing between these elements is based on space available and easy for maintenance.
Installation of a fine mesh strainer in suction lines should generally be avoided. Strainers create obstruction to flow and will clog.
The problem with suction strainer clogging is the reduction in suction pressure, which in turn can initiate cavitation. Suction strainers may create turbulence in the fluid which can then cause vapor bubbles in the liquid and air entrainment. These conditions provide identical symptoms, which is a unique rumbling/rattling noise, high vibration levels and pitting damage at the start of the vanes in the eye of the impeller.
Suction strainers are typically used during the start up of a pump system to catch any stray construction debris that had been left in the pipeline. Subsequent use to collect solid particles has proved popular but often problematic. Relocating the strainer downstream of the pump may be useful providing that the pump can handle the solids.
Select a strainer with the proper size being careful that the pressure drop through the strainer will not add to the suction lift and then exceed the suction capability of the pump.
Install the suction strainer as near the pump suction as is practical and in such a manner that it can be easily opened and cleaned. Be sure to arrange a regular inspection on the strainer to avoid clogging.
