Pump shut off 1

I have some doubts about this concept in pumps. The shut off point is supposed to be the flow rate of the pump when discharge pipe is closed that means it is the Pressure of the pump at 0 flow rate. My doubt is: how this can be achieved in reality?, you have to switch off the discharge valve of the pump not allowing thus the liquid to flow?

Yes, turn the valve off while the pump is still going round at its normal speed. Sometimes also called "dead head". The shut off point refers to the head / pressure when the flow is zero. Note - pump curves give the differential head so you need to add the inlet head to get your head at zero flow. This is sometimes much more than the inlet head when flowing so you can get a nasty surprise....

It is also referred as the "Churn" point. You should always let a very small flow of water at the shut off point so as not to overheat the pump.
