For pumping 12% sodium hypo chlorite solution contractor is proposing to use Horizontal centrifugal pump ( cap 100 m3/hr and 3barg pressure). The MOC is Polypropylene. The pump is vendor standard.

For the above service any precautions to be taken in the design of the pump? Thanks to advise

Yes, ensure it comes from a reputable manufacturer with a proven record in the duty you are proposing.

It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts. (Sherlock Holmes - A Scandal in Bohemia.)

Where larger quantities or sodium hypochlorite are being transferred, a centrifugal mag drive pump is recommended for containment of the fluid. Depending on the flow rate and site requirements the solution can be transferred using an all-non metallic build such as a complete polypropylene body, though it is recommended avoiding carbon bearing assemblies and lesser quality magnets as these will suffer chemical corrosion.

Hypochlorite will offgas, which is the formation of gas in the piping system caused by heat, sunlight, low pumping rates, idle time, or a combination of these. System and pumps are often designed with venting at the discharge and highest point in the system to prevent vapor lock. Maintain a flooded suction condition if possible. Suction lines should be 2-3 times larger than the pump inlet.

Make sure you check the material of construction for ALL wetted parts. Even a small component of the wrong material can result in a failure equivalent to an entirely incorrect pump.
