hello
for designing a plunger pump for transferring crude oil , i need some theoretical information about these kind of pump. can anybody now how can i calculate optimum distance between plunger rod and cylinder that plunger move in it?( i think i calls tolerance)
i really appreciate you if you can help me

It all depends upon flow and pressure. Plunger diameter, plunger stroke and speed determine the flow. And the pressure in combination with the plunger diameter is of importance for the gear load. Why do you want to design something that you can purchase from various experienced vendors?

Dear Afsaneheng: Not sure if I understand what you really need. In your initial post you wrote "how can i calculate optimum distance between plunger rod and cylinder that plunger move in it?" How long is the stroke length of your pump? That is more or less the dimension you are looking for, unless I misunderstand you. Do not care that much about efficiency and losses. It is more difficult to get it work so that it operates without trouble.

i have no problem with stroke length and as i showed in attached picture i need to know what is the best distance between plunger rod and plunger cylinder, in part that i distinguished, for better or optimum performance. it is important to me because when the plunger move in, amount of liquid remain at the end and i want that with considering an optimum tolerance between plunger rod and cylinder, lead the fluid to the outlet and with focus on having little noise.
 
What you probably need is API 647 plunger pump for crude oil production service. Why don't you get together with your Rotating Equipment specialist and contact reputed manufacturers and discuss this particular application directly? This seems like the best approach to me. Eventually you'll have one of those pumps purchased and installed, at the very end. See:

Of course, for this work we uses standards such as API and ANSI and even pump handbooks. but first our team should have a good simulation of conditions and parameters,because of our special conditions, then investigate the offer of consulting or manufacturer company.
