hello everyone

Can anyone tell me a book that explains the technics for strengthening slabs to punching shear.
I have a problem of punching and I can't find nothing about it.

Thank You very much

Do you mean the shear developed in the floor slab at the critical section/perimeter of the column? Check the PCA for spearhead reinforcement. The addition of channels in a cross configuration works.

Best, Tincan

ACI 318-02, Section 11.12 (Section 11.12.1.2 in particular). Other ACI 318 codes have the same provisions.

What about some kind of exterior prestressing that could strength punching shear??

Is this an EXISTING slab that requires strengthening for punching shear?

If so, column collars, caps or steel sections adequately fastened to the u/s of the existing slab has been done before.

Column enlargement is also a possibility. But more expensive than caps or collars. If steel sections are installed to the u/s of the slab, you would need to check fire rating issues.

External PT will also work depending on the slab arrangement/geometry, but typically will only be economic in existing slab strengtening applications if other deficiencies are present (eg flexural and/or deflection problems too).

Re books about punching shear strengthening....not much out there, but a paper my Pete Popovic from WJE (Chicago) covers concrete shear collars....let me know if you are interested and I will try and get you a copy.

ACI Manual of Concrete Practice (5 volume set or CD) has a document on slab strengthening that I think covers punching shear strengthening to existing slab.
