Hi,
I am looking at a project for an AutoTransfomer 0-500amp and i have a quote from PureVolt India.
Has anyone had experiance of this company in the past?

An Autotransformer and an "Automatic Voltage Stabilizer" are two completely different things. Are you clear on what you want and what to call it? The concept of "0-500A" is also not something I would attribute to an Autotransformer. An Autotransformer is just a transformer on a single core where one set of windings induces onto itself to raise (or lower) the line voltage, as opposed to an "Isolation Transformer" where you have separate windings for the primary and secondary and they are only magnetically coupled. That has nothing to do with stabilizing voltages, and current is a function of load demand, not transformer design. You might decree that you want a transformer capable of delivering 500A maximum, but the "0-500A" implies that you might want come sort of variable output current regulator.

Maybe some additional information of what you have and what youy want to accomplish is in order if you want more help.

Weird way to spec a transformer.

I have only had one transformer from India, and it will be the last. If I could send it back there, or perhaps just drop it off the quayside into the river and hide it, I would do so. Quality was awful: horrible welding, lousy paint, horrible instruments, a core and winding pack which tested good but looked bad. There might be some decent manufacturers in India - I'm sure there are - but I have no urge to explore further. This pile of crap was supplied as being a British transformer!

Where are you based? You might get more meaningful replies.

Guys,
Nowhere did i say i am looking for help with the spec. I am based in the UK and have been looking for a "Variac" at 500A 3 Phase and found no UK manuafcturer currently prducing this size other than India and U.S. Before others ask no a VSD or Softstart will not do the application.
To clarify all i asked was has anyone had dealing with this company ?
I refrained from calling it a "Variac" to limit others possibly knowing about the project and quoting.
Thanks,

Have you spoken to Watford Control - their range of voltage stabilisers extends into the low megawatt region. I'm not certain the larger ones are specifically a 'variac' design but functionally they are pretty much equivalent. I do doubt they can compete with India on price, but they'll win hands down on build quality.

Aside: If you are going to post odd-looking information don't be surprised if someone questions it - the 0-500A description certainly reads like you're describing a current source or maybe a small primary injection set rather than a voltage regulator. Some folks who post on here genuinely couldn't tell amps from apples... nice to know you're not one of them. [smile]
