Hi,

I have been "playing" lately with this simple 1 story concrete frame structure in order to get the hang of push over analysis. I watched the tutorial and read a few papers on it and I think I'm getting there.
So I tried it on my simple frame but I noticed that no matter what value I use for the "Reinforcement Overrides" data (frame sections / beam design), the capacity curve stays the same.
To my understanding, the more longitudinal reinforcement I use, the stiffer the beam should be and the plastic hinges should form at larger displacements (even move to the column at some point). However, in my case nothing happens, everything stays the same.
Anyone else faced the same situation or knows how to solve this?

Thanx,
iotoma

I don't believe SAP2000 considers reinforcement when determining the stiffness of concrete frame sections, so changes to reinforcement will not affect the plastic hinges. The composite/nonlinear shell element will consider reinforcement in nonlinear analysis.

Hey
from the manual :
"For concrete Sections, the reinforcing steel must be explicitly defined, or else the section must have already been designed by the program before nonlinear analysis is performed"
I also tried to change the amount of reinforcement but the program did not change the yield moment.
But it is possible to change the yield moment and to uncheck it in the frame hinge property data form

i am performing a pushover analysis for a simple column. I have introduced the concrete and reinforcement properties. If i increase the reinforcement, the force also increases, but the shape of the pushover curve does not changes. I've attached a SDB file and o word document with the actual results and the theoretical ones.
What should i do in order for them to match?

thank you,
