I have a solar contractor client who wants to attach their PV panels to the masonry parapet of a row house through a system in which ultimately the wind uplift load is applied to the parapet by way of threaded rods which are drilled horizontally through the parapet. The height of the parapet varies, but regardless, there does not seem to be enough masonry self weight dead load above the rods to counteract the wind uplift. I cannot see any other way to make this connection work. Has anyone seen a masonry parapet loaded in such a way? Or does anyone see a solution to this before I tell my client that it's just not feasible. Thanks in advance.
